What the research means for patients
Much of Dr. Ugradar’s work concerns a receptor called IGF-1R, which sits on the cells of the eye socket and drives the inflammation and tissue expansion of thyroid eye disease. Understanding this pathway helped make today’s targeted TED therapies possible — and it shapes how patients are selected and monitored for treatment in this practice.
The goal of research here is practical: knowing how a disease behaves, who responds to treatment, and when to act.
